The main varieties of Yamae Chestnuts

Rihei(利平)

 

A large chestnut that is said to be the king of chestnuts.

In Yamae Village, there are ones as big as a golf ball.

It is very sweet, tasty, and is high in quality.

The color is beautiful with blackish brown.


Tsukuba(筑波)

 

The chestnut itself is comparatively large. It is fertile, sweet, and tasty.


Tanzawa(丹沢)

 

It doesn’t look glossy, but it has sweetness and has a great taste.


Ginyose(銀寄)

 

It has a strong sweetness and the texture is powdery.

Also referred to as “Soft and sweet”, it is a very popular texture.


Sugihikari(杉光)

 

The fruit is yellow.

The sweetness is mellow and is rich in taste.

It is rather large for an early variety.
